Tata Motor has provided new engines powering for this car. Both the 1,047cc turbocharged diesel and the 1,199cc Revotron petrol engines are three-cylinder engines that use a DOHC four-valve per cylinder valvetrain and variable valve intake cam timing. The petrol makes 85Ps of max power with 114Nm of max torque. The diesel produces 70Ps of max power with a 140Nm of max torque.

Tata has brought out Zica after extensive customer research by experts from both India as well as from the UK to compete with the likes of Hyundai i10 Grand and Maruti Celerio.

Tata Motors have named the new car as Zica – a word play from the word ZIppy Car.

Platform

The Tata Zica is based on the same XO platform as company’s very popular hatchback, Tata Indica. The third vehicle under Tata’s HorizoNext strategy, after the Bolt and Zest, the upcoming Tata hatchback is an all-new car with new style cues and sharper design language.

Exterior

The front fascia of the car is well-designed and comes with Tata’s signature honey-comb pattern grille, large sweptback headlamps with projector units and a muscular front bumper. The car also features a wide grin-like air dam that flanks big circular fog lamps with chrome bezels. The side profile shows some sharp character lines, dual tone ORVMs with turn indicators and a set of neatly designed 10-spoke alloy wheels. The rear has a muscular bumper and wraparound tail lamps with combination lights.

Inside the cabin, the all-new Tata Zica looks premium with its quality fit and finish. The dual tone dashboard looks well equipped and comes with body coloured panels around the AC vents. The Zica gets some decently comfortable contoured seats along with Tata’s signature three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel that coupled with the predominant black interiors make it all the more appealing. Customers will be able to opt for the customization packages at their local dealership.

Engine specifications

Under the hood the Tata Zica will come with two engine options, an all-new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel motor and the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol unit that does duty in the Zest and the Bolt. While the new oil burner is good for 67bhp and 140Nm of torque, the petrol engine develops 83bhp and 114Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, the possibility of the introduction of an AMT variant in the Tata Zica line-up has been reserved for the future.

Pictures first

Tata Motors released the first pictures of the Tata Zica and also revealed its features and specifications. Scheduled to be launched in the first half of January 2016, the Tata Zica is designed with inputs from Tata Motors’ three design studios – Pune, UK and Italy. The vehicle is the third all-new product under Tata Motors’ HorizoNext product strategy, after Bolt and Zest.

Classy looks

The front features a honeycomb grille and inverted design headlamp with halogen lamps. The prominent shoulder line resembles the Ford Figo. Zica rides on the largest tyres in the segment – 175/65 R14.

Spacy interiors

The familiar two-tone black and beige colour with piano back accents, already seen in the Zest and the Bolt looks classy. The multifunction steering wheel is also carried forward. The Harman infotainment is also expected. The boot space is 240 L. The higher end variant will also feature chrome and silver detailing along with alloy wheels. There are 22 storage units. It will also get the latest-generation Electric Power Steering (EPS) unit.

Infotainment unit

It gets HARMAN-developed infotainment and audio acoustics system that has USB, iPod, Aux and Bluetooth audio support. The Zica also gets 8-speakers and speed dependent volume control. In addition to the infotainment system, the Zica gets segment-first applications like the Turn-by-Turn navigation app and the Juke-car app.

The Zica will be available with two engine options – a new 1.05 L three-cylinder diesel motor expected to produce 70 PS which will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT as well. The petrol motor in the Tata Zica is expected to be a 1.2-litre Revotron motor with peak power of 80 PS. This engine will come with a manual transmission. Tata Zica comes with segment first Multi-Drive modes – City and ECO modes.

Safety

Safety features such as ABS, EBD and dual front airbags are expected to be a part of the top-spec trim.

Price

Tata Motors will be out with a competitive rate and one can expect prices to start from around Rs 3.5 lakh for the Zica.
